Art Stacey


Art Stacey's practice is focused on insolvency, restructurings and commercial matters, with an emphasis on agri-business undertakings across western Canada. Art often acts for entrepreneurs and business people in start up situations. His practice is centered on the structuring of transactions, their financing, and providing ongoing legal support to commercial clients. He has been instrumental in the start up and organization of several short line railroads in western Canada, a cross border durum growing cooperative, and various other new business ventures.

Representative Cases/Transactions

Amongst other deals, Art has acted for the Great Western Railway in its purchase from West-Can Rail Ltd. of 302 miles of railway in south-western Saskatchewan in 2004, the Fife Lake Railway Ltd. in it's purchase of the Fife Lake subdivision from CPR in 2005, the Last Mountain Railway in its purchase from CNR of a portion of the Craik subdivision in central Saskatchewan, and the Boundary Trail Railway Company in its purchase of a portion of the La Riviere subdivision in south-western Manitoba. Previously Art acted for Prairie Pasta Cooperative, an attempt by durum producers in Canada and the mid-western United States to form an international durum processing cooperative. In such contexts Art also practices in the area of securities law.
