Kathleen (Kate) C. Murphy
Kate Murphy specializes in aboriginal law, natural resources law and environmental law, and in the use of computers for large-scale case management. She has co-represented Manitoba Hydro in the resolution and arbitration of claims under the Northern Flood Agreement. Also, she advises governments, developers and resource users on aboriginal land claims & related issues, and environmental legislation & planning, including the management of potential environmental effects of natural resource development. She has also advised First Nations in Ontario, Manitoba and Quebec on specific land claims, economic and development issues, and internal governance.

Call to the Bar
Kate was called to the Ontario Bar in 1983, and the Manitoba Bar in 1993. She was co-counsel to the Commission in the Ontario Public Inquiry into Fire Safety in Highrise Buildings from 1982-83, Crown Law Officer for the Ontario Ministry of the Attorney-General from 1983-86, and at Houser, Henry, Loudon and Syron in Toronto from 1986-93, where she became a partner in 1990. She joined TDS in 1993 and became a partner in 1994.
Professional Associations
She is a member of the Canadian and Manitoba Bar Associations and has lectured on evidence and research methods related to aboriginal law. She is one of the designers of Alternative Dispute Resolution methods to avoid litigation or expedite more conventional dispute resolution mechanisms. Kate was appointed to the Manitoba Law Reform Commission in May, 2000.
