Congratulations to Bob Adkins and Jim Ripley, two of a select group of ten lawyers to receive the designation of Queen’s Counsel (QC) for 2020. The honourary title of Queen’s Counsel is awarded to lawyers by the lieutenant-governor in council based on recommendations made by the minister following consultation with an advisory council to recognize exceptional merit and contribution to the legal profession.

This prestigious designation is awarded annually to members of the legal profession who have demonstrated superior legal ability, professional integrity and a superior contribution to the life of the community.

The practice of Queen’s Counsel appointments in Manitoba stopped in 2001. The Queen’s Counsel Act, passed in 2018, restored Queen’s Counsel appointments with new and transparent eligibility criteria for lawyers in Manitoba.

A formal ceremony in honour of this year’s Queen’s Counsel recipients will be postponed until a later date due to COVID-19.

Congratulations to Bob, Jim and all the 2020 recipients for this honourable distinction.
