In addition, attendees will learn about the cybersecurity risks associated with e-commerce and tactics to mitigate such risks.

3. IP, cyber security, data protection and privacy law

About the speakers

 

Silvia de Sousa’s practice is concentrated in the area of business law with an emphasis on intellectual property law and technology law, including intellectual property transactions, intellectual property protection, trademarks, copyrights, patents, and licensing matters. Silvia served as past Chair of the National Intellectual Property Law Section of the Canadian Bar Association and is a former Chair and current member of the Technology and Intellectual Property Law Section of the Manitoba Bar Association. She has also volunteered her time with the American Bar Association IP Section.
Silvia is a trademark agent and has been recognized nationally by Best lawyers in Canada for Technology Law.

Doug Tait is an experienced business lawyer who practises primarily in the areas of Privacy and Data Protection, Cyber Security and Technology. He advises clients on privacy, data protection and cyber-security matters, including legal obligations, compliance with provincial, federal and international privacy laws, risk minimization and management strategies, creation and implementation of privacy, data protection and cyber security policies, procedures and practices, data breach reporting and notification matters, incidence response planning, external vendor/service provider risk mitigation, including contract review, and cyber insurance, including policy review. Doug’s technology practice focuses on the negotiation and drafting of technology related agreements including service agreements and software-as-a-service agreements.
