National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Thompson Dorfman Sweatman LLP (TDS) will be closed on September 30 in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

TDS continues to provide educational opportunities for our lawyers and staff to bring awareness and understanding of the individual, family and community inter-generational impacts of residential schools, and to honour the children who never returned home, the survivors, their families and communities. Our observation of this day is just one of the firm’s initiatives that we are undertaking in support of Indigenous communities.

This year, TDS will be providing orange t-shirts to all employees purchased from Dreamcatcher Promotions, an Indigenous-owned company that donates $2.00 from every shirt sold to an Indigenous organization that supports residential school survivors. TDS is also providing 50 Winnipeg Blue Bomber-Saskatchewan Roughriders game tickets to the Exchange Income Corporation (EIC), an organization that works with multiple Indigenous communities to bring them to Winnipeg for the game taking place on September 30. The game will feature Brian Chrupalo, the CFL's first Metis referee now in his 19th season with the league, officiating in Ojibwa.

TDS encourages all schools to participate in Truth and Reconciliation Week 2022 - a national bilingual educational program open to all schools across Canada, with the theme "Remembering the Children", running from September 26-30, 2022. All sessions will be held virtually, allowing classroom participation from across the country and the involvement of Indigenous and non-Indigenous students.
