Ross Nugent retired from Thompson Dorfman Sweatman LLP as of March 31, 2012 after having practised law for more than 60 years. He joined the firm in 1968 following 8 years of service with the City of Winnipeg as its Deputy Solicitor. His practice focused primarily on the development and valuation of commercial real property and on municipal planning and expropriation. Mr. Nugent appeared in the courts at all levels, including the Supreme Court of Canada in a landmark case relating to the municipal assessment of a number of properties in the City of Winnipeg. In 1983, the Land Value Appraisal Commission went on record publicly describing him as "the most eminent expropriation compensation counsel in Manitoba." We wish him all the best in his well-deserved retirement.
