The Passing of the Honourable Guy J. Kroft

published 04/21/2020

With deep sadness, we announce that our friend and former colleague, the Honourable Guy J. Kroft, passed away on April 15, 2020 at the age of 85.

Guy joined TDS as an Articling Student in 1955. He was called to the Bar in 1959 and became a valued partner at our firm. Guy had a very successful practice primarily in the area of civil litigation. In 1979, he was appointed to the Court of Queen’s Bench where he served until his appointment in 1993 to the Court of Appeal. Guy retired from the Bench in 2006. In 2012, Guy Kroft was profiled in TDS’ 125th anniversary video.

Guy was a wonderful colleague during his time at the firm. He was generous with others and treated everyone fairly and with kindness. He was very active in the community and, amongst many other contributions too numerous to list, served as President of the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba, and on the board of The Winnipeg Foundation. During his distinguished career as a judge, he served on the Executive and as President of the Canadian Superior Courts Judges Association.

Guy was a true gentleman and he will be missed.
