Effective May 31st, 5:00 p.m. CST, Donald G. Douglas resigned from Thompson Dorfman Sweatman LLP (TDS).
For several years, Don has represented two clients in a contentious and complicated litigation matter. Recent developments gave rise to the possibility of a future conflict, as a result of which TDS would no longer be able to act for these clients.
After giving the matter careful consideration, Don reluctantly came to the conclusion that the only way he could be certain of being able to continue to represent his clients would be to resign as a partner from TDS, where he has practiced law for over 45 years.
Keith LaBossiere, CEO and Managing Partner of TDS sent out an internal email saying “Don’s resignation from the firm was accepted with sadness and regret. His contributions to the firm were significant as a lawyer, colleague and leader. His enduring strong and positive influence in the firm will be missed. Please join me in wishing him well.”
Don will continue to practice law under Donald G. Douglas Law Corporation as a sole practitioner. Don may now be contacted at 204-295-0919 or by email at Don@DonDouglasLaw.com
Don articled at Thompson Dorfman Sweatman (“TDS”) then served as an Associate and Partner, most recently as CEO and Managing Partner until December 31, 2016.
Throughout his career, his preferred areas of practice have been limited to all aspects of commercial law, in both transactional and litigation matters. Having earned an LLM (Alternative Dispute Resolution) from Osgoode Hall in 2010, in the future he intends to focus on dispute resolution with an emphasis on mediation.
During the course of his practice, he has participated on various panels and authored a number of papers in presentations for The Law Society of Manitoba, the Canadian Bar Association and other professional bodies. He co-chaired the 1999 Pitblado Lectures on Business Law and Litigation with then Associate Chief Justice Jeffrey J. Oliphant and has also been a presenter at those same Lectures.
