TDS Lawyer Chimwemwe Undi Named Winnipeg Poet Laureate

The Winnipeg Arts Council announced last December that TDS lawyer Chimwemwe (Chim) Undi was named Winnipeg Poet Laureate for 2023 and 2024. The recipient is selected by a panel of Winnipeg's literary experts commissioned by the Winnipeg Arts Council. The Poet Laureate creates work that reflects the life of the city, commemorates official functions, and develops their own body of writing and performance.

Chim has been an active member of the Manitoba poetry community for over a decade. She has performed at literary festivals, and her work has won awards and appeared in numerous publications. Chim is on the board of Poetry In Voice/Les voix de la poesie and is a poetry editor with CV2 Magazine. Her debut collection will be published by House of Anansi in 2024.

Chim recently read her poem Winnipeg Poem (At the Crux of Two Rivers) at the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce’s Mayor’s State of the City address. Mark Chipman, Executive Chairman & Governor, Winnipeg Jets Hockey Club, remarked that “the real highlight of the event, however, was the reading of the poem At the Crux of Two Rivers by its author, Chimwemwe (Chim) Undi. Chim is Winnipeg’s Poet Laureate and a lawyer at TDS, a fantastic partner of ours”.

TDS is proud of Chim’s accomplishments and the profound impact she has made on our community.

“At the crux of two rivers that hold
more than they wash away
an imperfect city stands, restless
in the heat of its own light –“
