Vanessa K. Smith

Profile

Vanessa is an Articling Student-at-Law practising primarily in the area corporate and commercial law.

Vanessa worked at TDS as a summer student in 2024 and 2025. She returned to the firm in 2026 to complete her articles, after obtaining her Juris Doctor from the University of Manitoba, graduating with the second-highest academic standing in her final year and earning a place on the Dean’s Honour List.

During law school, Vanessa provided legal services to businesses, entrepreneurs, and not-for-profit organizations through the L. Kerry Vickar Business Law Clinic and the Manitoba Legal Clinic for the Arts. She also worked as a research assistant in the area of law and technology.

Vanessa has been actively involved in the legal and student community. She served as Co-Chair of the Professional Development Committee and was elected by her peers as Class Representative with the Manitoba Law Students’ Association in each year of her legal studies. Vanessa also represented the University of Manitoba at the Canadian National Negotiation Competition.

Prior to law school, Vanessa earned a Bachelor of Science with Distinction from the University of Manitoba.
