Acumen Corporate Development & Languages

Acumen Corporate Development

Acumen (a strategic partner of TDS) spearheads the corporate development function for businesses, providing the expertise and resources required to achieve extraordinary results. Acumen acts as the “quarterback”, linking senior management with other professional services providers including legal, accounting and financing partners.

Acumen helps clients succeed with their growth strategy and/or exit strategy by providing specialized expertise and adding capacity to the clients available resources.

Acumen adds-value by temporarily filling in gaps in expertise and providing critical support to senior management, during the planning and execution of strategic initiatives. This added support allows executives to maintain a focus on important day-to-day operations, which may otherwise be impacted during periods involving strategic initiatives.

Acumen seeks input from management to develop a strategic plan and then teams with management to execute the plan. The Acumen team also uses customized software and project management tools to ensure a smooth and complete process. It is this methodology of creating a comprehensive, customized plan in partnership with clients that sets Acumen apart and allows us to exceed client expectations.

Sharing information in the cloud has never been easier. Recently, there has been a growing concern as to the security of information stored on public cloud services. In 2012, TDS Law launched our Tempo service – a private cloud sharing platform.

Tempo is hosted internally at TDS Law, ensuring the safety and security of your private client documents. Tempo works like public cloud services, making your shared documents available on your desktop PC or Mac, through your smart phone or through any web browser.

Benefits of Tempo Include

Security – The cloud is physically within the TDS Law office, preventing unauthorized physical access to our shared data, while providing users the flexibility to work with their documents as needed, using desktop, laptops, tablets, and mobile devices

Share Large Files – Email isn’t designed to share large files, and using an FTP server to share documents is not practical either. There is no file size limitation on our private cloud. Whether you are sharing a simple word document, or an HD video of a work site, we can share it.

Collaboration Simplified – Sharing documents by email creates an opportunity for multiple versions of a document to circulate, causing inconsistencies and missed updates. With our private cloud, multiple people can work on the same document. Changes are saved automatically and updated to all users with access.

Versioning – Sometimes updates need to be undone. With Tempo, files are tracked, allowing the share administrator to quickly rollback to a previous good copy of a file.

Are you ready for private cloud sharing? Contact your lawyer to get started. Installing our Tempo synchronization software is quick and easy.

TDS is committed to providing our valued clients with new services and to being progressive when it comes to adopting new technology. We are pleased to announce that TDS is now able to offer our clients video conferencing technology. In August, 2011 the firm purchased a high definition (HD) video conferencing centre to enhance our ability to serve clients in remote locations in Manitoba, in other jurisdictions in Canada and at locations around the world.

Several of our clients are located outside of Winnipeg. This new service will allow our clients and lawyers to meet face-to-face without having to leave their office, reducing time away from the office and away from family. Of course, video conferencing is not meant to replace all in-person meetings. We understand there are times when meeting face-to-face is needed, but in situations where in-person meetings are not essential, this new solution will prove to be efficient, cost-effective and convenient.

Getting started on video conferencing with TDS is easy. If your organization has an existing ISDN or Internet based video conferencing system, we should be able to connect without a problem. If your organization does not have video conferencing, there are a couple of options available to you. In most urban centres, there are video conferencing facilities that can be rented for a nominal fee, providing true HD quality video. We ask that the first time a video conference is requested with us, we do a test call in advance of the actual meeting, to ensure there are no technology issues between the systems.

Where is it available?

Our video conferencing service is available in our Winnipeg, Brandon and Portage la Prairie offices.

We support both inbound and outbound IP-based video conferencing. Our inbound IP addresses are

  • Winnipeg: 161.8.12
  • Portage la Prairie: 79.33.210
  • Brandon:36.159.17

We use state of the art Cisco Telepresence equipment to connect our three offices and to any compatible IP-based or ISDN-based video conferencing system. We use high-quality 1080p video conferencing equipment to ensure crystal clear picture and sound to clients around the province, and around the world.

We support fully encrypted end-to-end video conference calls using H.235 and AES encryption to provide peace of mind, ensuring that client-solicitor privilege is protected from outside parties.

Our equipment supports the following standards

  • 323/SIP
  • 460.18, H.460.19 Firewall Traversal
  • 261, H.263, H.263+, H.264
  • 239 (H.323) dual stream

Please note, to conserve energy our video conference systems are in standby mode when not in use and will not accept incoming calls. Please contact us before initiating an inbound call to our systems.

Clients on ISDN based systems can connect to our video conferencing system through our ISDN bridge provider. These calls must be pre-arranged.

Video Conferencing Support

If you have any questions, or difficulties connecting to our video conferencing system, please email vcsupport@tdslaw.com. Our support staff is available Monday – Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm GMT -0600.
