Richard practises in the area of securities law, with a corporate and commercial transactional practice and an emphasis on the strategic use of Manitoba limited partnerships.
Richard is a business law partner whose practice has a particular focus in the areas of securities law and Manitoba limited partnership law.
Richard’s corporate and commercial practice emphasizes the strategic use of Manitoba limited partnerships in transactions and financings. He has developed a reputation nationally and internationally in assisting clients with the creation and maintenance of Manitoba limited partnerships with a view to risk reduction and administrative efficiency. His Manitoba limited partnership work extends to international private equity and investment funds and their ongoing administrative, investment and transactional needs.
A significant part of Richard’s securities law practice involves agency work, and he is well known for his proficiency and responsiveness in acting as Manitoba and Saskatchewan agency counsel in multi-jurisdictional securities offerings, including public offerings and private placements. His agency practice also includes a broad range of commercial transactions with a connection to Manitoba and/or Saskatchewan, and usually entails the issuance of formal legal opinions confirming compliance with Manitoba and/or Saskatchewan law. Richard also provides securities law and governance advice to public companies and assists them with their ongoing compliance.
Richard is a public member, and the Manitoba District Chair, of the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO), a self-regulatory organization for which he chairs disciplinary hearings.
