Justice Alan MacInnes and the late Chief Justice Richard Scott have been recognized with Pro Bono Public Interest Law Project’s 2025 Pro Bono Award.
This meaningful honour is presented to those who have made significant contributions to public interest legal services, such as the environment, human rights, consumers and vulnerable peoples and communities.
Justice Alan MacInnes received his Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Manitoba in 1966. His judiciary career began in 1978 and culminated in his elevation to the Court of Appeal in 2007. Now, in retirement, Mr. MacInnes offers valuable mentorship and guidance to TDS lawyers.
After earning his degree in and being called to the bar in 1963, Mr. Scott spent many years with TDS. He became Manitoba’s longest-serving chief justice and was inducted into the Order of Manitoba and Order of Canada. His passing in November 2024 was felt deeply throughout the community, and he is remembered for his deep intellect, sound judgment and humility.
The award was presented on January 24, 2025, as part of the 2025 Manitoba Bar Association Mid-Winter Conference Awards Luncheon. It was accepted by Alan MacInnes and Mary Scott, on behalf of the late Chief Justice Richard Scott.
