Doug is an experienced business lawyer who practises primarily in the areas of Privacy and Data Protection, Cyber Security, Technology, Property and Development and Corporate and Commercial law.
Doug is a partner with TDS and a founding member of Thompson Dorfman Sweatman LLP’s Privacy and Data Protection Practice Group. He advises clients on privacy, data protection and cyber-security matters, including legal obligations, compliance with provincial, federal and international privacy laws, risk minimization and management strategies, creation and implementation of privacy, data protection and cyber security policies, procedures and practices, data breach reporting and notification matters, incidence response planning, external vendor/service provider risk mitigation, including contract review, and cyber insurance, including policy review.
Doug’s Technology practice focuses on the negotiation and drafting of technology related agreements including service agreements and software-as-a-service agreements.
Doug’s Property and Development practice focuses on advising a variety of clients, including developers, landlords and those within the energy sector, regarding a wide range of land matters including commercial and residential real estate conveyancing, financing, leasing, development, subdivisions, easements, rights-of-way and mineral rights.
Doug’s Corporate and Commercial practice focuses on advising clients on general corporate and commercial matters including incorporations, shareholder agreements, negotiating and drafting a wide range of commercial agreements, business sales and acquisitions, financings, personal property security and contract review.
Doug is a member of both the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) and ISACA.
