Lex Mundi Pro Bono Foundation Success Story: Supporting Humanitix's Expansion into Canada
When Australian social enterprise Humanitix sought to expand into Canada, it engaged support through the Lex Mundi Pro Bono Foundation and its global firm network. Humanitix is a purpose-driven ticketing platform that directs 100% of its profits to charitable causes, including education and poverty alleviation initiatives. To date, the organization has redirected more than $20 million AUD into social impact programs worldwide.
The initiative drew on Lex Mundi member firms across several jurisdictions, TDS lawyers Leilani Kagan and Celyna Yu led the Canadian component of the project.
They incorporated a Manitoba corporation and prepared and submitted a charitable registration application to the Canada Revenue Agency, supporting Humanitix’s entry into Canada and drawing on TDS’ experience in charities and not-for-profit law to help establish the legal framework necessary for its Canadian operations.
"Our team was honoured to support Humanitix's expansion into Canada," said Celyna Yu. "Learning about Humanitix's accessibility innovations and commitment to creating more inclusive event experiences has been inspiring, and we look forward to seeing their accessibility-first ticketing model transform the industry and charitable landscape in Canada."
This collaboration highlights the value of international legal coordination in helping mission-driven organizations navigate complex regulatory requirements as they expand into new jurisdictions. Through the Lex Mundi network, TDS was proud to contribute to an initiative focused on advancing social impact while supporting the establishment of Humanitix’s Canadian presence.
This matter was featured in the May 2026 edition of the Lex Mundi Pro Bono Foundation's News on Purpose newsletter.
